Abstract
Alginate is a natural polysaccharide with promising properties such as non-toxicity, biocompatible, and biodegradable. Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles (SPIONs) have extraordinary properties which led to be explore and studies in biomedical applications such as targeted drug delivery, hyperthermia, and tissue repair. Therefore, this study produces alginate biofilm and beads containing SPIONs and characterises their physical and chemical properties. Sodium Alginate (SA) is used to create biofilm and beads of 1 wt. % SA with 0–3.0g SPIONs. SEM, FESEM, EDS, FTIR, XRD, AFM, contact angle measurement, TGA, swelling behaviour, and Kirby Bauer disc diffusion were used to characterise the samples. SEM and FESEM images show the biofilm and beads with smooth and porous microstructures. EDS elemental analysis showed abundant
